HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) Cable convert AC power into DC power before transmission. Since they have low transmission loss and can transmit more than twice the current, they are suitable for long-distance large-capacity transmission.
Taihan anticipated the growing demand for HVDC cables and focused on their development as a key growth driver. As a result, in 2017, taihan developed the 500kV MI-PPLP HVDC cable. In 2022, we became the first in South Korea to develop a 500kV XLPE current-type cable system and obtained international certification.
In 2023, taihan also achieved another first in South Korea by developing a 525kV voltage-type HVDC cable system with a conductor cross-sectional area of 3,000 sq. mm and a conductor operating temperature of over 90 degrees Celsius, and received international certification.
Taihan is also building a dedicated test center for HVDC cables at our Dangjin Cable Plant in Chungnam to strengthen our competitiveness in HVDC cables.
