Ferronickel Slag is generated during the smelting of nickel ore in SNNC’s ferronickel production process. It is separated from the molten metal and then processed into useful forms.

SNNC classifies its slag into two principal types:
Prime Stone (Air-Cooled Slag): cooled naturally in ambient air to form gravel-sized aggregate. It offers good compaction properties, making it suitable for uses in road base, structural backfill, or asphalt aggregates.

Prime Sand (Granulated Slag): the slag is rapidly cooled via water spray, producing fine particles akin to sand. This form can be utilized in concrete as fine aggregate, in caisson fills, molding sand, abrasives, or as replacement for natural sand.
