The Scratch tester is used to measure the adhesion of coating layers such as CVD and PVD. In the test, when the specimen moves at a constant speed while applying a vertical load Fn to the surface of the specimen using a diamond indenter, stress is generated on the interface, and this stress causes flagking or chipping of the coating layer after a certain load. This starting point is called Fc (Critical force) and is used as a measure to indicate the adhesion of the coating layer. ASTM C1624 method can be performed.
