| Applications | Allows air traffic controllers to provide real-time lateral and vertical guidance to aircraft during final approach—particularly critical in low-visibility conditions, adverse weather, or when instrument landing systems fail . |
LIG Nex1’s Precision Approach Radar (PAR) is a sophisticated ground-based system that delivers precise lateral and vertical guidance to pilots during final approach—especially when instrument landing systems fail or visibility is poor. Installed at military airfields like Gwangju’s 1st Fighter Wing starting in 2019, the radar enhances flight safety by letting controllers vector aircraft along glidepaths down to runway thresholds. Developed under a KRW 20 billion (≈ US $15–17 million) program initiated in 2012 and completed by 2017, the system continues deployment across strategic military airports in phases through at least 2023.
