Unico Global’s Zn-flake coating is a high-performance, environmentally-friendly corrosion protection system. The coating uses a water-based slurry of zinc and/or aluminum flakes in an inorganic binder to form multilayered, non-electrolytic protection on metal surfaces. It cures in relatively mild conditions (~110 °C for 25 min) to form a durable inorganic matrix. Typical coating thickness in many applications is between 5-30 µm. The system exhibits outstanding resistance to salt spray (ASTM B117), galvanic corrosion, heat (to ~300 °C), solvent attack, scratching and wear. It also avoids chromium (hexavalent or trivalent), has no VOCs, and is free of toxic materials, making it suitable for automotive, marine, heavy equipment, electrical utility, appliances, and construction applications. The process steps include degreasing, micro-shot blasting, dip & spin or spray application, curing, and inspection.
