| Applications | Used for wireless communication (telecom, base stations, repeaters), IoT devices, GNSS, WiFi, 4G/5G multiband use, especially where multiple frequency bands are needed in a compact or low-profile design. |
A multi-band patch antenna features one or more radiating patches on a dielectric substrate and a ground plane beneath. Through design strategies like slotting, stacking patches, or using multiple resonant elements, the antenna can operate over several discrete frequency bands (e.g. cellular, WiFi, GNSS). Patch antennas are low-profile, easily integrated into enclosures, and are frequently used in situations where aesthetic, form factor, or mounting constraints exist. Common design goals include matching across bands, keeping VSWR low (<2), decent gain (e.g. 2–8 dBi), and robustness in outdoor or enclosed settings.
